Painting on stretched canvas was pioneered by the Venetians in the 16th century, originally using linen twill sail cloth. Stretched canvases are light and make a durable painting surface. Wooden stretcher bars provide the support frame for the canvas. For light duty work Standard Stretcher bars are an economic choice. Our Branded Stretcher bars are a mid weight artists’ quality bar, kiln dried to minimise warping. Exhibition Stretcher bars are our heavy duty range, made from laminated European pine. This range is popular with artists wanting to leave their work unframed and printers who need a professional deep edged frame.
