The
painter's support of choice has always been linen. Manufactured from
the long fibres of the flax plant, this fabric is extremely strong
and durable. Our linens are of the highest quality and include many
that are unique to Russell & Chapple. The majority of our linen
is produced to our specification in Belgium, though some linen fabrics
are woven for us in Scotland.
Many artists prefer to use cotton because of the expense of linen.
Cotton duck provides a smooth, regular support with an even regular support with an even grain and is available in many widths and weights. Our cotton mostly comes from India.
Primed canvas provides an alternative for artists who choose not to prepare their own supports. We keep in stock over twenty different kinds of primed canvas, ranging from hand primed French linens to our economical grade of Russell & Chapple studio canvas. |
