It contains UV filters to protect the print from light damage, comes in three finishes and can be applied by brush, roller or spray. The 30° Satin finish is a very low gloss finish without the colour deadness associated with full mat lacquers. Clearshield Type C is for use on ‘water resistant’ type mat canvases printed with pigmented aqueous. For dye based inks use the AFA Aerosol or Printguard.

Traditional, non-lightfast pigments were replaced with modern lightfast pigments with the same colour characteristics as the traditional ones. Thanks to the highest possible concentration of pigment in each colour, the paint has an unprecedented colour strength. Within the unique range of 168 colours, there is a wide range of opaque and transparent colours, each with the highest possible brilliance (intense) and clarity (clean) characteristics. The only medium we use for our oil paints is cold-pressed extra virgin linseed oil, to obtain an optimum oxidisation (drying) of the paint. This increases durability and brushstroke spread. Together, these characteristics result in an oil paint of unequalled quality.

They are made of laminated pine to minimise warping, and have a 1/4 in lip to raise the canvas away from the bars. All bars are mortised to take cross-bars from 36 inches. The Russell & Chapple 12oz Primed Cotton Duck is triple primed and made using our our own smooth and heavy 12oz Cotton. The primer is a high quality European make. It is sold by the metre and the 10m roll.
The 12oz Studio Primed Cotton Duck is a double primed version using the same base canvas.
The Fredrix fabric has a rougher medium / coarse texture.
The 144 in Fredrix canvas is hand primed on frames as it is wider than the coating line.
